ABOUT
I studied art at the University of Kentucky, receiving a BFA with a focus in painting. After graduating in 2020, I began a studio practice in New Jersey, completing several commissioned works in both watercolor and acrylic paint, ranging in subject from landscapes to portraits and pet portraits.
Artist Statement
In my paintings, I am drawn to the subject of landscape, a subject that points to the world around us, a world we inhabit that is wholly familiar to us yet vastly different from us, something we are constantly in dialogue with yet never speaks. Currently, I am developing a series of small-scale landscapes based off the subtle change of seasons. These works are rooted in observations and sketches made from life and are completed in the studio from photographs.
I am interested in how the elements of a landscape, when scaled down and placed onto a canvas, begin to find new meaning and form a visual language. Just as words can be arranged in a manner to form poetry, I am seeking to investigate how landscapes, through the medium of paint, can start to communicate ideas or emotions that cannot be easily articulated.
